The One Change That Could Transform Your Year š
The Spark (by Hunter at Show Her Off Dance).
Date Night
What better way to start off the year than to add some spontaneity to your relationship?
This is an easy way to infuse some lighthearted fun into date night.
Choosing a movie/show
Budget: free or the cost of renting a show.
Whatever you decide to do on your date nights, one way to start practicing spontaneity is to leave the choice up to chance.
This week, when youāre snuggling up to watch a show, instead of automatically choosing your go-to program (or genre), make some room for the unexpected.
Pick a show at RANDOM.
You can choose the For You section, closing your eyes, and point to one. Or each of you write down a list of 10 possibilities, put them in a bowl, and choose blindly. Or flip a coin - or use any other method to randomly select one.
However you decide to go about this, have fun and agree to follow through with whatever show is chosen. Then you can laugh / talk about about how strange, bad or good it was after and anything that surprised you.
Connecting Conversations
Sometimes a great question is all you need to start a meaningful conversation :)
This weekend, try asking your significant other:
What do you think Iāve done really well in our relationship lately?
What has parenting taught us? (or think it would teach us)
What has surprised you most about your life so far?
Your Personal Spark: Growth Lab
As you are planning out your New Yearās goals & changes, I wanted to give you something to consider.
A single change, that if focused on, can have a massive lift in all other areas of your life.
And that focus isā¦
Improving sleep!
Yes I know, probably not a huge revelation, but Iāve found I often need to be reminded more than I need to be taught. So this is just a friendly reminder :)
The downstream impacts from improving your sleep time & quality are massive. More energy, better health, longevity, lower emotional reactivity, better quality decisions, the list goes on and on.
ā..the shorter your sleep, the shorter your life..ā
Ok cool, improving sleep sounds nice, but how do you DO it?
The #1 tactic Iāve found helpful for me is DATA. ie - tracking your sleep.
This eliminates mental accounting and stories and instead allows me to see how much deep and REM sleep I actually got. It also allows me to test different things to see if they improve my sleep quality.
Here are 3 easy ways to track your sleep (least expensive to most):
Use a Withingās sleep mat - this was my go to for years because once you set it up, it tracks forever - no wearing anything, recharging etc. Set it and forget it.
Use your smartwatch, fitbit tracker or oura ring
If it makes sense financially (donāt go into debt for it), consider investing in an Eight Sleep pod. It not only tracks your sleep but helps regulate your body temperature to keep you sleeping deeper and longer. This is what I currently use and have found super helpful.
Ok, once you have your tracking system setup here are a few things you can test/try for yourself to see if you notice positive benefits. Donāt feel the need to do these all at once:
Go to bed routinely at the same time
Wear an eyemask or get blackout curtains
Wear earplugs
Hope that gives you some ideas! Hereās to your best nights of sleep in 2025!
