Reader Tip: Celebrate Your Monthaversary

This tip comes from John, a fellow Spark reader:

“We like the ‘monthaversary’

That is, the day of the month of your wedding becomes an excuse for a monthly date.

You can take turns choosing what to do on that day, or choose by consensus. This can range from a dance, a walk, a restaurant outing, visiting a friend together, shopping, etc. Or incorporate it into vacation time.

We have been married for over 40 years, and it has helped keep our relationship fun. Our trying the “show her off” dance moves came out of planning for a monthaversary date a couple years ago.”

I love this idea because it creates a special mini-milestone for you two to celebrate each month vs waiting just once a year!

Personal Spark: How to Slow Down Time

“New situations kill mental clutter. In newness we’re forced into presence and focus. This is because we can’t anticipate what to expect and how to respond, breaking the trance that leads to life in fast forward. Newness can even slow down our sense of time. This explains why time seemed slower when we were kids. Everything was new then and we were constantly learning.”

Tis from an excellent book I finished last week, The Comfort Crisis.

If you’re feeling that life is flying by you can reduce that speed by intentionally adding NEW into your life - new hobby, new morning routine, new restaurants, new challenges, new experiences, new people, etc.

I’ve recently added cold plunging - brrr, rucking (walking with an added 20-50+ lbs), and am headed to Sweden Sunday (never been!) for a week.

Chat with your partner and see if you can both come up with something “new” to try together! To dive deeper you can make a date out of watching this podcast episode with Andrew Huberman and the author.

Connecting Conversations

The right word at the right time will unlock the door to treasures - the wrong one will close it forever.

This weekend, try asking your significant other these over coffee:

  • What has been your greatest source of excitement lately?

  • What elevates good sex to great sex?

  • Where in our lives are we moving too fast?
