Getting personal with karaoke
PLUS: More fun questions to ask your partner
Welcome to The Spark (by Hunter at Show Her Off Dance).
Every Thursday, I’m going to send you a quick, five-minute email with fun date night ideas, conversation starters, and resources to help strengthen your relationship.
My goal is to help you and your partner have more fun, feel more closely connected and create more meaningful memories together (just like with Date Night Dancing).
Don’t want to receive the email? You can unsubscribe by clicking here.
Connecting Conversations
Sometimes a great question is all you need to start a meaningful conversation :)
This weekend, try asking your significant other:
What's the last thing you changed your mind about and why?
What do you think I should know about myself that I might not already know?
When was a time you needed courage to keep going because no one else believed in you?
Have any questions that you’d suggest I include for future editions?
Reply to this email and let me know.
Date Night
Hand over the mic, Taylor, it’s karaoke time!
While that might stir up panic in some of you, hear me out.
A date night of singing along to some curated tunes can be super fun 📢
But it can also be more than that.
It can be a great way to connect more deeply with your significant other… if you set it up right.
Karaoke Night with a Twist
All you need is a computer with access to YouTube (it’s ideal if you can hook it up to a larger screen), a “mic” (fun options: a hairbrush or spatula) and some courage.
Now, let’s make the song list personal. Here are some ideas:
Start with a song that gives you a good memory of something you’ve done together. Keep it light and fun (and sing it as a duet).
Agree on a song that represents your relationship (again, as a duet).
Each of you picks a song that expresses how you feel about the other.
Each of you picks a song that you wish the other would sing to you (and then have them sing it to you) 😬
Each of you picks a song that you imagine the other loved as a teenager (and then sing it to them with all the gusto you can muster).
You can find an incredible number of karaoke versions of songs on YouTube. Here are some popular channels to get you started:
Sing King has a vast collection of songs, categorized into playlists, decades, genres, moods, artists and albums.
King of Karaoke is focused on pop, so fans of Taylor, Britney and Bieber are covered, but there’s also Pearl Jam, Annie Lenox and songs from the movie Grease.
Stingray Karaoke has an amazing array of modern songs plus decade-by-decade options.
For those into acoustic versions of songs, check out AcoustiClub and sing2guitar.
If you can’t find the song you’re looking for, just type the title into YouTube’s search bar with “karaoke version.” Chances are, someone will have posted a version you can use.
Budget: free
I’m dying to hear what songs make the cut for you :)
