I think a small part of romance is the element of surprise, doing the unexpected.

What do you think is expected today?

Correct, saying how thankful you are for them. Which of course is lovely.

But to add a drop of romance we need an unexpected twist.

Here are two ideas you can choose from (feel free to adjust to suit your voice)

1. Text them that you are thankful for something they are NOT

I am so thankful I have a [man/woman] who is not [negative trait]. [Share short specific story demonstrating this]. I love you - gobble gobble.

2. Text them you are thankful for something difficult you went through together and came out of stronger. Only use this one if you have the emotional and communication skills to discuss without agitating the situation.

It may sound funny, but I am thankful for [tough incident] we worked through. I believe taking on challenges makes us stronger and that one certainly did - so without it and you I’d be weaker. I love you!
