Personal Spark: Where Your Phone Sleeps

Most of us know phone-in-bed isn't great. Here's what actually changes when you stop.

Try this for one week: when you get in bed, the phone stays in another room (or at least across the room, face down, do not disturb on).

Three things happen.

  1. The blue light stops messing with your melatonin and you fall asleep faster.

  2. Your brain finally gets to power down so you get deeper sleep.

  3. You're not going to bed wound up from one last bad email or news story. You wake up calmer.

Plus, this is where the best little moments with your significant other can happen. A goodnight kiss. A five minute laugh about something silly. The hand on the back. None of that happens with a screen in your face.

Try it out yourself (or together) for 7 days. Small change, big payoff.

5 Minute Challenge: Favorite Touch

Here's something to try when you have 5 minutes alone together.

Each of you shows the other one spot you love to be touched, and how.

It might be the base of your neck. A slow stroke on the back. A thumb tracing your palm. The spot right behind your ear.

Keep it rated G or go R, depending on the moment.

Once your partner shows you their spot and style, don't rush it. Give them a full 60-90 seconds of that exact touch. Then switch.

You'll both walk away more connected, and probably a little surprised at how good it feels to be touched the way you actually want to be.

Bonus points if you go slower than feels normal.

Connecting Conversations

"The best thing to hold onto in life is each other."
~Audrey Hepburn

This weekend, try asking your significant other:

  • What’s something you quit that you wish you hadn’t?

  • How has your love for me changed in ways that surprised you?

  • Which reality show do you think you could win if you really tried?

Before you go: Here are 3 ways to connect
